What do we do next? nicely eat and sleep because we couldn’t do it during examtime go on vacation, friend’s outing and other plans too After finishing all that a small thought about college will come At that time you will get college applications and keep and are thinking about how to fill it? then this video’s just for you. 7 steps to fill College Applications Step 1: Make a list of colleges you’re going to apply You’re wondering how to write the list? first, colleges in your own city; then the colleges you’re going to apply in India and third international colleges Why I am telling this order is if you put a list It is easy to get the applications and tick it off the list Even the necessary documents may differ for the various colleges the document requirement for the colleges in our city will be different and same way it will differ for national and international colleges. So if you have a list it is easy to tick and correspondingly keep the necessary documents ready Step 2: Know when the applications are given Usually the applications are given between March-May you can go collect them during that time. If you think you’re going to join only one college there’s no necessity to get other college applications is very wrong because you need extra applications from other colleges as a backup will be very useful. or you can try for all the colleges that have your desired course or you can try for extra courses related to your subject Step 3:Be aware of Submission Deadline Like how you don’t get a job done when you don’t submit form on time Same case for college applications If you don’t submit the application on time there’s a possibility of you not getting a seat in the desired college Usually they tell the deadline date while giving the applications itself you can note it down Easy way to do this is write down the dates next to the colleges you made a list previously and according to the calendar you can submit them Step 4: Read the instructions in the college application carefully when you write an exam, they deduct marks if you strike and rewrite Just like that if you had rewritten in college application there’s a possibility of it getting rejected so carefully read the instructions and then start writing it you can think nowadays college applications are online even then while typing in the last minute, it is better to follow this step to avoid mistakes Suppose you have extra doubts even after reading instructions you can call the college and get them clarifiied Step 5: Don’t leave boxes blank when you take an application there are many categories to fill and if you don’t know something in it it’s better to get to know it before hand If you think it’s only a small issue and send it without filling,it will lead to a problem As leaving even these boxes might lead to application getting rejected Sometimes you may not know your parent’s official details so fill the form with your parent’s help. When you’re filling it online save some applications as drafts and go back and fill them. Some might disappear after closing them so if you keep your parent’s/elder’s near while filling it, your doubts will get clarified and you won’t leave any box empty Step 6: Submit the necessary documents whichever college you’re applying to, some documents will be necessary they use these documents for eligibility criteria The documents that are needed are High school consolidated marksheet, admission test scores Personal essay, Letter of Recommendation and Portfolio If you’re asking why do we need high school marksheet your public exam might not have gotten over or you dont have your marksheet in hand Some colleges ask previously written exam’s marksheet like your 11th standard marksheet. So keep a copy of that Second thing that is needed is your admission test scores. Many colleges have entrance exams and the test scores of those exams must also be kept Third document that is needed is the personal essay. Many colleges ask for a short essay on yourself. They judge your communication skills based on this and how much you know about yourself due to these reasons,it is important to send it. Fourth document is Letter Of Recommendation. It is not compulsory to give recommendation But,your past school teachers or coaches can mention that you have certain skills, you know certain things very well and if they get a seat in the college even the college will also get a good name. and give a LOR like that, it is beneficial for you. Lastly, the portfolio is needed. This is applicable for certain courses like humanities, Arts, Music, Dance etc. when you were studying in school or through extra curricular you would’ve had activities and you can combine them and make a portfolio If you’re an artist then you can take your paintings and If you’re a singer, then you can take your CD’s. You can send these along with your application. Now you have filled up your application, next is Step 7: Proofread and be Honest what is proofreading? After typing/writing the application and send it just like that you can’t go back and correct your mistakes. So after filling the application, read it twice and look for Spelling mistakes, grammatical mistakes or the answer for the first point might have been written in the second and can change it. Apart from you doing it, you can also give it to your parents or friends and make them have a look at it. Next important thing is apart from proofreading for mistakes, you should also proofread for lies because many colleges verify it. Suppose you had mentioned you’re a 100mts running race champion and if that’s not true, they will get to know. So honesty and Proofreading is important here. Finally your college application is ready. After sending it, you can wait for an interview call Here you have to do an important job; Taking a xerox copy of the sent documents and application is better. It will be helpful for reference in the future.
