How To Read LED Indications in Home Solar Inverter/UPS


Brainy Eco is the most intelligent solar home
UPS of modern times. The LED indications in its front panel helps you in understanding
its smart working. There are total 6 LED indications in Brainy Eco which when glow helps in understanding
different protections and functions in it. First one is Mains LED which will continuously
glow in the condition of Mains Available and if the Mains MCB at the back panel of the
system trips due to any fault, then it will start blinking with a beep which will tell
us that Mains MCB has been tripped. Second one is Backup LED. When solar power and mains
both are not available in Brainy Eco, then this LED will start glowing and you will understand
that Brainy Eco is running the appliances in your home with battery backup. Third is
Charge LED. In the condition of solar and mains power available when the battery in
Brainy Eco charges through both or one of these power sources, then this LED will start
blinking and when the battery is fully charged, then this Charge LED will continuously glow
which will tell you that the battery is fully charged. Next indication is Overload LED.
This indication glows in two cases. First is when the system is connected to more than
the load it can take. In this case, Overload LED will glow with a buzzer beep in red colour.
After detecting Overload condition, system will automatically switch off and then switch
on. Through this process, Brainy Eco checks if the Overload condition is gone or not.
If Overload condition is gone, then the normal working of Brainy Eco will start. If the system
is still in Overload condition, then Brainy Eco repeats this process four times. After
retrying four times if the Overload condition still exists, then the system will switch
off and to switch on the system, load will have to be reduced and the Power Active switch
will have to be reset. In the second case if there is a short circuit at the output
of the system, then Overload will continuously be on with a buzzer beep in red colour. After
detecting the condition of Short Circuit, Brainy Eco automatically switches off and
then switches on. Through this process, Brainy Eco checks if short circuit is gone or not.
If short circuit condition has been removed, then the normal working of Brainy Eco starts.
If the condition of short circuit still persists in the system, then Brainy Eco continues this
process two times. After retrying two times if the short circuit condition is present,
then the system will turn off permanently and after fixing short circuit, the Power
Active switch needs to be restarted. There is another protection in Brainy Eco for Overload
and Short Circuit conditions which is known as MCB and is available on its back panel.
In the condition of mains or solar available if there is an Overload or Short Circuit in
the system’s output, then this MCB at the back panel will trip. In this condition, mains
LED will start blinking. In this condition, you will have to fix Overload or Short Circuit
and will have to put the MCB switch up. After doing this, the system will start working
in the normal condition. Next indication is Battery Low LED. There are two battery low
cut options in Brainy Eco – 10.5V and 11V. The battery discharges on these two volts.
If you have set 10.5V as low cut in your Brainy Eco, then at around 10.8V, the Battery Low
warning will start and in this condition, the battery low LED will start blinking in
red colour with buzzer beep. As the battery voltage will come to 10.5V, the battery will
stop providing backup. Along with this, load will also stop working. In this condition,
Brainy Eco’s Battery Low LED will continuously keep blinking in red colour. Now if you have
set Battery Low to 11V, then at around 11.2V, Battery Low warning will start. In this condition,
Battery Low LED will start blinking in red colour with buzzer beep. As the battery voltage
will become 11V, the battery will stop providing backup and the load will stop running. In
this condition, Brainy Eco’s Battery Low LED will continuously glow in red colour. Last
LED indication is Solar On which shows if solar power is available or not in Brainy
Eco. In solar available condition, this LED will glow in yellow colour and if solar power
is not available and there is mains power supply in Brainy Eco, then this LED will continuously
glow in green colour. If solar power and mains both are available at the same time in Brainy
Eco, then this Solar On LED will glow in yellow colour. Now we will understand the working
of this LED indication in different situations. In the first condition, Brainy Eco has solar
power. Then Solar On LED will be continuously on in yellow colour. Along with this, Backup
LED will glow in white colour. If Brainy Eco’s back panel has ATC wire connected, then Charge
LED will blink normally for 30 seconds in yellow colour and for 2 seconds, it will blink
fast which shows that ATC wire is connected with Brainy Eco and battery charging is happening
from solar power. If ATC wire is not connected with Brainy Eco, then Charge LED will normally
blink for 30 seconds in yellow colour which shows that Brainy Eco is not connected to
ATC wire and ATC is not working. Let’s understand the second condition when only mains is connected
to Brainy Eco. In this condition, Mains On LED will be continuously on and Charge LED
will blink in green colour. At this time, Solar On LED will be continuously on in green
colour which shows that solar is disconnected but the system is on. If the ATC wire at the
back panel of Brainy Eco is connected, then Charge LED will blick for 30 seconds in green
colour and for 2 seconds, it will blink fast which shows that ATC wire is connected with
Brainy Eco. If the ATC wire is not connected to Brainy Eco, then Charge LED will normally
blink for 30 seconds in green light which shows that Brainy Eco is not connected to
ATC wire and the battery is getting charged through mains. The third condition is when
solar and mains both are connected to Brainy Eco. At this time, Solar On LED will continuously
be switched on in yellow colour which shows that solar is connected and Mains On LED is
also continuously blinking. In this condition, Charge LED will alternatively blink in green
and yellow colour which shows that both solar and mains is connected with Brainy Eco. If
the ATC wire at the back panel of Brainy Eco is connected, then Charge LED will blink for
30 seconds alternatively in yellow and green normally and will blink fast for 2 seconds
which will show that ATC wire is connected to Brainy Eco. If ATC wire is not connected
to Brainy Eco, then Charge LED will alternatively blink between green and yellow colour for
30 seconds which shows that Brainy Eco does not have ATC wire connected and ATC is not
working and the battery is charging through both solar and mains. Next case is Grid High
Mode. The AC supply at your home is approximately 220 V. If you have selected UPS mode in the
dip switch at the back panel of Brainy Eco, then the inverter grid will go in high mode
at 265V+/- and the output load will be off. If Brainy Eco is working on wired UPS mode,
then the inverter will go in grid mode at 290V +/- and the output load will be off.
This mean whenever Brainy Eco goes in Grid High mode, then Mains On LED will start blinking
fast. Backup LED will be continuously on in white colour and Solar On LED will glow in
green colour because at this time, solar will not be available. At the same time every two
seconds, buzzer will also beep which will tell you that mains supply voltage has crossed
the limit. If Brainy Eco is in UPS mode and input voltage is 260 V +/- 10V, then Brainy
Eco starts working in normal mode and recovery in wired UPS mode is 275V +/- 10V. Next case
is when mains supply voltage goes beyond limit and solar power is also connected with the
system. In this case also in wired UPS and UPS mode, Mains On LED starts to blink fast,
backup LED continuously glows. In this condition if Brainy Eco is connected to temperature
sensor wire, then Charge LED will blink in yellow colour for 30 seconds and for 2 seconds,
it will blink in green colour which shows that ATC is working in the system. If the
system is not connected to temperature sensor wire, then Charge LED will continuously blink
in yellow colour. Along with this, Solar On LED will be continuously on in yellow colour
because in this case, solar is available and is only working on solar and not on mains.
The buzzer will also beep every 2 seconds which will show that mains supply voltage
has exceeded the limit. If Brainy Eco is in UPS mode and input voltage is 260 V +/- 10V,
then mains connectivity is established with Brainy Eco. In wired UPS mode, the recovery
will be at 275V +/- 10V. After recovery, the load will run on both mains and solar. The
third case is when mains supply is less than the limit. If you have selected the dip switch
at the back panel of Brainy Eco to UPS, then the inverter will go into Grid Low Mode at
85V +/- 10V and will not be able to run load. In this case, Mains On LED will blink slowly,
backup LED will be on in white colour continuously and solar on LED will glow in green colour
because at this time, solar will not be available. At the same time, buzzer will beep every 2
seconds. If Brainy Eco is in UPS mode and input voltage is 190V+/-10V, then mains will
get connected to Brainy Eco. In wired UPS mode, recovery will be at 90V +/-10V and the
load starts running. Next case is when mains supply voltage is less than the limit and
solar power is also connected to the system. In this case in both wired UPS and UPS mode,
mains on LED will start blinking fast, backup LED will continuously glow. If ATC is connected
here, then Charge LED in this case will blink for 30 seconds in yellow colour and then will
blink in green colour for 2 seconds which shows that ATC is connected with the system.
If ATC is not connected, then Charge LED will continuously blink in yellow colour in this
case. Along with this, solar on LED will be continuously on in yellow colour because in
this case, solar is available and load is running on solar rather than on mains supply.
The buzzer will also beep every 2 seconds which will tell you that the mains supply
voltage is less than the limit. If Brainy Eco is in UPS mode and input voltage is at
190V +/- 10V, then mains will get connected to Brainy Eco. In wired UPS, recovery will
be 90V +/- 10V. After recovery, load will run both on mains and solar. Now we will understand
Solar LED protection provided in Brainy Eco. First case is when the current coming in Brainy
Eco becomes more than 30amp which is called PV high current volt. In this case, backup
LED will glow in white colour and solar on LED will blink fast in yellow colour which
will tell us that the current coming from solar panel has gone beyond the limit. In
this case, Brainy Eco will switch off the power coming from solar panel and load will
run on backup mode. As the solar current will come to a safe limit, then Brainy Eco will
start running the load from solar power. Another case is when the voltage coming from solar
panel to Brainy Eco goes beyond the limit. If Brainy Eco has 25V voltage limit, then
it goes into PV voltage high mode. In this case, backup LED glows in white colour and
solar on LED will blink in yellow colour slowly which shows that solar panel’s voltage has
exceeded its limit. In this case, Brainy Eco will switch off the power coming from solar
panel and load will run on backup mode. As the solar voltage will reach a safe limit,
then Brainy Eco will start running the load from solar power. Third case is when voltage
from solar panels connected to Brainy Eco provides is less than the battery voltage.
This conditions is called PV voltage low. For example, if the battery voltage of the
battery connected to Brainy Eco is 13V and solar panel can provide only 11V, then in
this case Brainy Eco will go in PV low voltage condition. Then solar on LED will go off and
backup LED will glow in white colour because load will only run through battery.

    1. ek to iski jo green aur yellow Light hai ye aur jyada bright honi chahiye thi jaisi su-kam power doc ki green light jyada tej chamakti hai kyu ki ghar ka darwaja khulte hi mains on ko chhod ke saare indicater dikhne band ho jaate h.

    with, 250w (24v) *4 =1000w panel ( MONO SOLAR PANELS)

    with, 150ah (c10) * 4 battary = 600ah

  21. It is recommended by you to use 4x150Ah batteries for Brainy Eco1600 for 1000W Solar Panels in the series-parallel combination to make 24V 300Ah. Why not 2x300Ah batteries (in series) instead?
    Is it possible to use 2x200Ah (12V) batteries in series to make a 24V 200Ah system? Afterall the maximum battery bank by specs is 24V 300Ah.

  32. We installed a Su-Kam Brainy Eco 1600 inverter at in Mangaon, Raigad District, Maharashtra in December 2017. The inverter is in warranty period.

    The inverter stopped working on 6th of June 2018 due to some unknown reason. Immediately, we lodged a service request/complaint on 7-June 2018; however, the service has been delayed for almost a 50 Days. The end customer is still waiting for the appropriate service of the product.
